Cork floors are starting to become very popular in the United States and offering a beautiful and unique finish. You can lay cork floors anywhere in your home including in our kitchen and bathroom. This is a flooring that you must consider when deciding to change the flooring in your home.

Cork for flooring is harvested from a cork oak tree. This is not like when hardwood floors are made because the cork tree is not cut down to produce the flooring. The cork from the cork tree is harvested every nine years. One side of the tree is stripped of the cork and this is the cork that is used to manufacture the flooring. So the tree is in fact is not killed and the forest can keep growing being unharmed, like new hardwood floors. It is a good choice for the environment if you chose cork floors.

Cork trees can live for a couple centuries this is because they are not killed in this cork harvesting process. The process that is used to obtain hardwood floors is one that kills the trees and the new trees need to grow for up to fourty years before becoming mature. The cork flooring is made from the waste product from the cork that is used in wine bottles, which is not to be confused with new cork floors. Therefore cork is harvested and the floors are made in an environmentally fashion.

Remember that this doesn’t mean that the cork floors are not attractive because they are some of the most beautiful floors that are made today. You can choose from a variety of colors and styles too. Any style from hardwood, cork, marble and more, along with just about any color, and new cork floors. The finished product of your cork floors can come in an array of different patterns.
