What can you do to fight constipation?
If you’ve never had any trouble going to the toilet then the first time you get bunged up it can quite distressing, and you are left wondering what options you have. One of the best things you can do at first is not to panic too much, if it has only been a couple of days since you last went then your body might just be trying to adjust to something you have done, maybe a change in your diet for instance, don’t start making any senna leaf tea yet.
When you are sure that you can’t go and it has been more than 2 days since you last went, then make sure you see your doctor just in case there is something seriously wrong that is causing it. After that you should know what is causing it, if it is medical you can get it looked at, or if it is just your change in diet then you know what to avoid doing in the future.
Then you can move onto the laxatives to help get things moving again, you might want to try osmotic laxatives first as they soften the stools to allow them to pass, but most people just go straight for the irritant laxatives which try to force your body to expel the contents of the bowel by making it contract. You’ll find that most of the irritant laxatives contain the same ingredient, senna, which is a plant that has natural laxative properties. If you prefer not to use pills then you can actually just buy the leaves from that plant and then add them to water to make a yucky tea to enjoy instead.
